Malone’s Grand Adventure in the Desert

When it’s hot in Texas, what does any sane person do?  Why, she goes to the desert!  That’s what I (Malone) did last week with my vacation.  I had never been to Big Bend National Park before, and boy have I been missing out!  Usually, my outdoor activities involve a horse, but hiking on your own two feet can be fun, too (unless you accidentally sit on a cactus  – ask me how I know).  I got some cool pics, including one of me riding a borrowed (no, not stolen!) horse in the Rio Grande.  Definitely a highlight.  If you are thinking of going camping, I highly recommend camping in Big Bend National Park and am happy to chat more about it with you – just hit me up.  Now it’s time for me to be THAT person who shows you vacation pictures WITHOUT you having asked.  The good news is… you don’t have to look!  😉

These cows just wandered around the campground when we were there.  They didn’t bother us, and we didn’t bother them.

Nothing to see here.   That’s me just riding my borrowed steed in the Rio Grande.  And yes, that’s Mexico on the other side!

It wasn’t ugly there.

Rosko and friends living their best life in the Rio Grande.  I told them to stay on our side since they didn’t have passports.

See?  I wasn’t kidding about sitting on a cactus.  And yes, those are cactus spines sticking out of my shorts.  This is Exhibit A on what NOT to do in the desert.

It wasn’t a Folgers Choice moment, but it was a pull over on the side of the road to take a picture moment.

Are we there yet??

Some great hiking with awesome views at the top.  There were signs telling us not to take any food because it would attract bears and mountain lions!!!?!?  I figured I didn’t have to outrun them – I just needed to outrun my friend who was hiking with me! 😀

We also found some tequila (aka agave)!

See?  The cows keep showing up!

Unfortunately, so did the javelina pigs.  We named one “Red Shahan.”

Fortunately, I was able to make a few business calls while I was there.  (Who knew these still exist!?!?!)

But in between business calls (because DJ’s do so much of that), there was plenty of time to relax.

As fun as it was, I am so happy to be back in the saddle at the Ranch!  Thank you for humoring me by looking at my pics, and I’ll talk to y’all on  Tuesday!!!  Until then, giddy up and watch where you step!  😀
