Kent Cox, the trainer and handler of PBR's No. 1 bucking bull Bushwacker, was found dead on property near Bunyan early Thursday morning.
According to officials with the Erath County Sheriff's Office, units were dispatched to a possible suicide just after dawn Thursday. They said Cox was found on the property where he keeps the bucking bulls he trains. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Bart Greenway.
Bushwacker is retiring at the end of the 2014 PBR season and is on his farewell tour. He is set to participate in the Dr Pepper Iron Cowboy V in Arlington on Saturday and in the Million Dollar Ride on Sunday, which will be aired on CBS Sports at 1 p.m.
The PBR released a statement following news of Cox's death.
"The PBR is sad to hear of the passing of Kent Cox and would like to express that our thoughts and prayers are with the immediate Cox family," the statement read.
In January, Cox, 42, was arrested by Dublin police after a brief standoff in front of Dublin City Hall.
